While we don’t know exactly when Dead Island 2 will break even after its nearly decade-long development, it’s off to a good start. Deep Silver and developer Dambuster Studios have announced that since Dead Island 2 launched last Friday, it has sold over 1 million copies after just three days on sale.
Deep Silver also took the opportunity to drop a few in-game facts with the announcement. Among them, the game has been played for a cumulative 11 million hours, with over 1 billion zombies slain in the process. Speaking of the zombies, players have been busy carving them up in Dead Island 2. 45 million undead have been sliced in half since launch, with 756 million limbs having been hacked off.
Lastly, zombies aren’t the only ones dying, either. A total of 28 million player deaths have been recorded, which is over twice the population of Los Angeles. Of course, the in-game population of Los Angeles is a different story.
Dead Island 2 is currently available on PC via the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. And in case you were wondering, Reyna shared her thoughts on the game, referring to is as “an enjoyable experience” with plenty of player freedom to smash zombies in a number of ways.
