GungHo Online Entertainment are at it again with their second dev diary for Deathverse: Let It Die. This time, Uncle Death kidnaps Akira Yamaoka (of Silent Hill fame), who reveals that he’s back doing sound producing duties for the upcoming Deathverse.
In this video, Yamaoka, who also composed the music for the first Let It Die game, discusses his inspirations behind the notably funky soundtrack for Deathverse. We got a taste of what Yamaoka has in store from the game’s first trailer, to which Yamaoka says that he was given free reign when it came to coming up with the sound.
“I didn’t intend on using funk, at first. The [game show within Deathverse] didn’t give off a ‘funk’ vibe, to me, at first, “explains Yamaoka. However, the idea of players duking it out in a funk-like environment was “interesting”, along with the quirkiness.
Set hundreds of years after the events of Let It Die, Deathverse: Let It Die introduces players to the world of the smash-hit reality show ‘Death Jamboree’. Produced by the enigmatic Yotsuyama Broadcasting Company, the show sees players fight for stardom in a virtual world known as the Deathverse, which was created by the Yotsuyama Group as a final destination for people’s souls.
Deathverse: Let It Die is currently in development for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as a free-to-play title, with a Spring 2022 release date.
