It’s been over a year since OldYacht announced their sci-fi co-op horror title Niktophobia. So what better way to update prospective players than with a demo? Available on Steam, the Niktophobia demo features both single player and co-op gameplay content, complete with VR support via OpenXR.
Niktophobia sees you as part of a biological and chemical threat prevention team. Your mission is to gather, isolate and deliver unknown substances or objects for further analysis. Your team has been sent to a chemical research and development facility situated on a space station. However, this particular facility recently had multiple power core failures, then suddenly stopped communicating altogether.
As a result, you and your team will now have to complete their mission while contending with the random periods of darkness on the space station. You’ll have to choose which part of the station will be powered (thereby granting you lit conditions), or resort to using personal equipment to light your way.
Things wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the alien lurking in the darkness. The alien’s AI is designed in such a way that it is always “physically present and reachable, planning actions and identifying unknown sources of disturbance.”
The full release of Niktophobia is planned for Q1 2025.
