Merge Games and developer Still Running are still plugging away at their upcoming horrorpunk RPG Morbid: The Lords of Ire, but they have good news for fans in the form of a new demo. Set for release on December 5th, the demo contains around an hour worth of gameplay, allowing players to check out the games’ revamped Sanity System, its gruesome hack & slash combat, culminating in facing off against the first boss.
In addition, Still Running also recently dropped a new developer diary that reveals a bit of the environments for Morbid. The environments range from the snowy frozen slopes of Rimehold, to the gothic spires of the demon-infested city of Irelia.
The story for Morbid: The Lords of Ire sees the antagonists from the first game, the Gahars, coming back once again. It’s up to you, the the Striver of Dibrom, to stop them once again. You’ll once again have to slay and scavenge your way through a tortured world filled with Lovecraftian horrors and Cronenbergian gore, where you are the underdog.
You’ll be battling your way through the five worlds of Ire – disgusting horrorpunk realms populated by five unique factions, from wintry mountains to rotten cities and beyond. Eviscerate the five fallen Lords of Ire and banish the Gahars using the Sanity System first established in Morbid: The Seven Acolytes. How you approach combat can have a dramatic impact on the world around you. Succumbing to insanity can grant incredible power, but at great personal risk, and will dynamically change how you perceive the world and its many threats.
Morbid: The Lords of Ire is currently in development for a 2024 release.
