Gun Interactive (Friday the 13th: The Game) is hard at work on their upcoming The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game, and we’ve got some more fresh details this week.
The Gun Team, joined by Kane Hodder – who is playing Leatherface in the game! – was on hand at Mad Monster Party last month, and these insights come out of the panel they took part in. For starters, we already knew that the game will feature a franchise-specific “3v4” match structure, with four players squaring off against Leatherface and two family members.
That will help distance The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game from the Friday the 13th video game, but how exactly will those matches play out? For starters, quite unlike Friday the 13th: The Game, the survivors aren’t going to be tasked with *fighting* but merely *surviving*.
“You cannot kill the killers in this game,” Gun explains. “Unlike Friday, there won’t be a lot of weapons. There’s not gonna be a huge combat system where you can team up on Leatherface. This is strictly about survival. There are little ways to defend yourself, but you won’t be grabbing a baseball bat and trying to attack [Leatherface].”
“The beauty of the original IP is, unless you’re driving a truck, you didn’t kill any of the original killers,” the team continues, teasing the franchise-specific approach to gameplay.
Playable maps include Leatherface’s House and the Gas Station, with horror actors Scout Taylor-Compton, Kristina Klebe and Sean Whalen also confirmed to play characters.
The game will feature classic villains from the movies as well as brand new family members, and the events of the game will take place *before* Tobe Hooper’s original classic.
