Despite dying not once, but twice, in the inaugural season of “Chucky,“ a familiar name joins the cast for season two.
Devon Sawa played twins Logan and Lucas Wheeler in season one, both meeting gruesome demises. EW reports that Sawa will return to play a new character in Season 2 of the USA/Syfy show.
Sawa shared a video with EW, in which he read a letter from the killer doll, “I don’t usually make these videos but I just wanted to read this email from my costar, so you can see what I go through,” explains Sawa in the clip. “It says, ‘Dear Gavin Sawa, I hope this email finds you well, I just want you to know that the only reason that you’re here is because I allowed it. Have a great season 2. Love, Chucky. P.S. Just kidding, you suck.'”
Jennifer Tilly and Brad Dourif were previously confirmed to reprise their roles for “Chucky” season two.
“We’re thrilled to start pulling the strings on a second season of puppet mayhem with Chucky,” franchise creator Mancini, who executive produces the series, recently said. “Many thanks to our partners at USA, Syfy and UCP for their incredible support and guidance bringing Chucky to the small screen, bigger than ever. And to the fans, Chucky sends his still-undying thanks, and a message: ‘This isn’t over, not by a long shot. You better watch your backs in 2022!’”
For the first season, Brad Dourif returned as Chucky and Tilly as Tiffany, which continued the storylines from the *original* movies and their recent sequels, Curse and Cult of Chucky. Other returning stars included Fiona Dourif as Nica Pierce, Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay, and Christine Elise as Kyle. “Chucky” has been described as a “fresh take on the franchise” that “explores Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format.”
In the series, “After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.”
“Chucky” is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and executive produced by creator Don Mancini, David Kirschner, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund and Harley Peyton.
What character will Sawa play next? We can expect to find out later this year, with the show targeting a Fall 2022 return.
