Titled “Dexter: New Blood,” the brand new revival season of Showtime’s “Dexter” was a huge hit for the network, becoming the most-watched series in Showtime history. The series averaged over 8 million viewers weekly across platforms, proving that there’s still demand for more stories in the “Dexter” universe. But are we getting another season of “New Blood”?
According to TV Line this week, Showtime is NOT moving forward with “Dexter: New Blood” Season 2 – but that certainly doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the fan-favorite character.
TV Line reports, “According to insiders, Showtime — which will soon merge with Paramount+ — is exploring a number of new iterations of Dexter, including a prequel series centered around a young version of the titular antihero.”
The finale of “Dexter: New Blood” ended with the murder of Michael C. Hall‘s Dexter Morgan, suggesting the revival season was indeed a true and final finale for the series. Even still, it was up in the air as to whether or not “Dexter” would continue, with showrunner Clyde Phillips expressing interest in coming back for another season. Alas, it looks like it’s not happening.
What’s next from the franchise? Given the strong ratings for “New Blood,” we’re thinking Showtime/Paramount+ won’t be finished with the “Dexter” saga any time soon.
Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
