Doug Jones is nothing short of a living legend in the creature performer arena, having notably played Amphibian Man in Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water as well as Abe Sapien in del Toro’s Hellboy movies, with other notable roles including Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus, Gentleman in the “Buffy” episode “Hush,” and Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth.
We’ve learned today (via THR) that Doug Jones is being honored this year for his many contributions to the entertainment industry, “named the recipient of the inaugural The Chair Award from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild.” The awards ceremony will be taking place February 19, with Sonequa Martin-Green (“The Walking Dead”) presenting the award.
Sonequa Martin-Green currently stars on “Star Trek: Discovery” alongside Doug Jones.
Guild president Julie Socash said in a statement, “Talk to any number of the top make-up artists and hair stylists in our industry and they will tell you Doug Jones is a true pleasure to work and collaborate with. He is a talented, consummate professional with infinite patience while morphing into all his memorable characters. No one is more deserving of this honor and we wish him a heartfelt congratulations.”
One of Doug Jones’ next projects will see him play iconic classic vampire Nosferatu, and he’s also reprising the role of Billy Butcherson in the upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel.
