In the wake of landing a massive deal out of Sundance, RLJE Films is getting set to release Dual from director Riley Stearns, a genre film starring Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul.
Collider has shared the official Dual trailer today, giving us a good idea of how this wild premise will play out. The premise, you ask? Well, Dual is set in a world where people can have themselves cloned when they’re about to die, and Karen Gillan plays the character at the center of the tale. She has herself cloned, but then realizes she’s not actually dying anymore.
The solution? The two are forced to have a fight to the death, leaving only one of them alive to walk the Earth. You can watch the wacky Dual trailer below to see how that all works!
Dual arrives in theaters on April 15, 2022.
“Upon receiving a terminal diagnosis, Sarah opts for a cloning procedure to ease her loss on her friends and family. When she makes a sudden and miraculous recovery, her attempts to have her clone decommissioned fail and lead to a court-mandated duel to the death. Now she has one year to train her body and mind for the fight of her life.”
“Dual was a film we were targeting from the beginning of the Sundance Film Festival and it exceeded our expectations,” RLJE Films’ Chief Acquisition Officer, Mark Ward, said in a statement earlier this year. “We are happy to be working with our partners at XYZ Films yet again and can’t wait to release the film later this year.”
“Shooting Dual with XYZ during a global pandemic will forever be an experience I look back on with a tremendous amount of pride,” added Stearns. “I’m beyond thrilled to enter the next stage of this journey with the team at RLJE Films and I can’t wait for audiences to see a film which we all deeply care for.”
Meagan wrote in her 3.5 star Sundance review, “Dual uses deadpan delivery and oddball performances to capture the strangeness of life, especially when faced with death.”
