“Let’s fight like demons.”
Denis Villeneuve‘s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune is finally headed to the big screen in October, and this morning the full 3-minute(!) main trailer has made its way online.
Dune will be coming to both theaters and HBO Max October 22, 2021, and you’ll find the trailer below. It sets the stage for an epic war between two factions on the planet Arrakis, teasing the Sandworms and the rise of Paul Atreides from child to hero. The new footage also introduces the entire main cast, which is incredibly impressive and loaded with big name stars.
Whether or not it’s able to make back its massive budget at the box office, Villeneuve‘s Dune is likely to be one hell of a movie. And WB hopes it’ll be able to spawn a franchise, something that the previous adaptation from David Lynch proved unable to do. Dune was a box office bomb back in ’84, you may recall. Can it finally find box office success over 35 years later?
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
The cast includes Timothée Chalamet‘s Paul Atreides, Josh Brolin‘s Gurney Halleck, Oscar Isaac‘s Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson‘s Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem‘s Stilgar, Zendaya‘s Chani, Sharon Duncan-Brewster‘s Liet-Kynes and Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho.
Villeneuve directed Dune from a screenplay he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.
