Two-man development team Tarba Paul Cornel and Cârlig Narcis has been hard at work bringing to life Left to Rot, a psychological horror game that mixes in elements of the V/H/S series with exploration-based gameplay. Any time a game reminds us of P.T. is worth checking out.
Left to Rot‘s story concerns you having been through a traumatic car crash that has turned your life upside down. After a few years of psychological recovery, you decide it’s better to start again elsewhere in a new city. After finding a new home and moving in, you discover that the house has some past trauma of its own. You find a series of VHS tapes that hold some disturbing content. And after playing one of the tapes, you quickly discover that you’re not alone in your new home.
While details regarding Left to Rot‘s gameplay are still to come, you’ll be doing a lot of exploring of your new home, finding items and discovering just what went on in the house. Which according to the Steam page, can completely change every time you turn around, further enhancing the sense of insanity in the game. And as mentioned, you’re not the only one in your house. Someone or something is with you, and you’ll need to be cautious to avoid attracting any unwanted attention.
Left to Rot is currently slated for a 2023 release on Steam. The game’s publisher, Galactic Crows, currently has a Patreon page up for the game’s development, if you’re interested.
And speaking of the V/H/S series, check out the latest entry in the series with V/H/S/99, which is currently streaming on Shudder.
