TeamKill Media’s Quantum Error will have some company in the first-person underwater horror arena, thanks to The Chinese Room (the team behind Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and Dear Esther) and publisher Secret Mode’s Still Wakes the Deep, which was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase. Set for release in early 2024 for the Xbox Series, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the game will also head to the PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Game Pass for console and PC.
The story for Still Wakes the Deep takes place in 1975. Disaster has struck the Beira D oil rig off the coast of Scotland. You are one of the oil rig workers on the Beira D rig, fighting for his life through a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters. All lines of communication have been severed. All exits are gone. And something has snuck on board, leaving you to not only restore function to the rig, but also deal with the unknowable horror.
Meanwhile, if you’re wondering about Quantum Error, the team tweeted last week that they’re in the process of working on a final trailer, which will also include the game’s release date.
