Directed by Lee Cronin, Evil Dead Rise is out now on 4K, Blu-ray and Digital, as well as streaming on Max, this year’s box office hit now available for everyone to watch at home. If you haven’t yet gotten the chance, however, you might want to skip this particular article.
This is your SPOILER WARNING…
The final act of Evil Dead Rise gives birth to The Marauder, a brand new supervillain in the world of The Evil Dead. Essentially, The Marauder is an entire family unit blended together to form a monstrous and murderous beast, a big swing for the franchise that feels a bit more Resident Evil than it does Evil Dead. We’ll call the film’s final act… Resident Evil Dead.
In Evil Dead Rise, mom Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) and kids Bridget (Gabrielle Echols) and Danny (Morgan Davies) all become Deadites, the three quite literally joining forces to form The Marauder. After Deadite Ellie gets her leg blown off, the kids essentially become her new limbs, crawling into her body and together forming a spider-like monster.
Over on Instagram, Adam Johansen and Damian Martin from creature effects house Odd Studio have shared concept art that gives us a better look at The Marauder, which is a bit hard to make out in the movie itself. Rampaging around in the apartment building’s parking garage, it’s a bit too dark in the film’s final act to clearly see the franchise’s new monster.
But you can get a much better look at The Marauder in the IG posts below!
The team over at Odd Studio writes, “We were privileged to be asked to design and create The Marauder creature suit. The film has been out long enough for us to start sharing some bts pics of one of the most complicated creature suits we’ve ever built. This design by our close friend @dominic_hailstone_ and Creature Designer Adam Johansen @adman855.”
In Evil Dead Rise, the action moves out of the woods and into the city, and tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sullivan and Sutherland, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
Meagan Navarro writes in her Evil Dead Rise review for BD, “Evil Dead Rise is an absolute crowd pleaser that’s best enjoyed with a rowdy crowd of fellow fans.”
