Sam Raimi’s Oldsmobile Delta 88 has become one of the most iconic vehicles in horror, driven by Ash Williams throughout the Evil Dead franchise. The classic car has also appeared in pretty much every single thing Raimi has ever directed, most recently popping up for a cameo appearance in the Raimi-directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Will the car be making an appearance in this year’s Evil Dead Rise? Not exactly, director Lee Cronin reveals in the new issue of SFX Magazine. Then again, it sort of does…
“What I looked to do was take things that are within the Evil Dead universe, bring them into my own little kitchen, and cook them up in a slightly different way,” Cronin explains to SFX Magazine. “Although there’s no Oldsmobile Delta [in the movie], the chainsaw in the movie is exactly the same colour as the Oldsmobile Delta.”
“So there’s more overt things in play, that people can grip straight onto, and really subtle things like that,” Cronin adds, generally speaking about Evil Dead Rise‘s callbacks and references.
On that note, Bruce Campbell is also hidden somewhere in the new movie…
SFX Magazine, the world’s number one sci-fi, fantasy and horror magazine – in print since 1995 – returns with another blockbuster issue on March 22, 2023.
Director Lee Cronin’s (The Hole in the Ground) Evil Dead Rise is coming exclusively to theaters on April 21, 2023. Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The End) and Nell Fisher (Splendid Isolation) star alongside Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Evil Dead Rise…
“In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert are producing Evil Dead Rise. According to Campbell, the three have been “very involved” in the project every step of the way.
