As promised, the official trailer for director Lee Cronin’s (The Hole in the Ground) Evil Dead Rise has been unleashed today, the film coming exclusively to theaters on April 21, 2023.
Producer Bruce Campbell teased just yesterday, “I’ve seen the movie in all of its glory and in case you’re wondering, yes it is amazing… and yes, it is the scariest one yet.”
You can watch the official Evil Dead Rise trailer below, which calls to mind Fede Alvarez’s exceptional Evil Dead remake from 2013. It looks like the tone here is gruesome terror rather than any of the horror-comedy stylings Sam Raimi introduced in both Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, with Evil Dead Rise gunning to indeed be the scariest film in the franchise thus far.

Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The End) and Nell Fisher (Splendid Isolation) will star in the new movie alongside Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Evil Dead Rise…
“In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert are producing Evil Dead Rise. According to Campbell, the three have been “very involved” in the project every step of the way.
Campbell, however, will NOT be appearing in the film as Ash Williams. Evil Dead Rise will instead be a brand new movie with brand new characters and a brand new storyline.
