Horror probably isn’t the first genre influence that comes to mind when discussing Tomb Raider. And yet, the genre’s influence has always been evident within the franchise’s 25-year tenure.
Whether Lara Croft is facing off against T-Rexs, droves of mercenaries, or more supernatural foes, her journey has always been guided and elevated by sub-genres such as horror.
And for this week’s episode of Safe Room, Neil and I are enlisting the help of author, writer, and podcaster Daryl Baxter to help us highlight how the series has always been adjacent to horror. Daryl’s expertise stems from a lifelong love of Tomb Raider, but also his recently writing a book documenting the making of the first two games titled The Making of Tomb Raider.
With Daryl’s extensive Tomb Raider knowledge, we get to the bottom of why horror has always had a home within the Tomb Raider franchise.
