Those of you keen on seeing more of Plot Twist’s The Last Case of Benedict Fox when it was first announced a few weeks back, you’re in luck. The devs have released a first look at the upcoming Lovecraftian Metroidvania’s gameplay, focusing on protagonist Benedict Fox and the game’s world of Limbo mechanic.
Narrated by Bartłomiej Lesiakowski, Creative Director of Plot Twist, the gameplay footage features Benedict Fox exploring a massive, decrepit mansion, along with the strange world of Limbo, which is the demon realm manifested by the memories of the deceased. Benedict will have to discover clues while navigating both worlds in order to piece together the mystery behind the fate of the residents of the mansion, along with his demon companion, and the occult Order that’s stalking Fox. The footage also features combat segments that mix the exploration aspects of Metroidvanias with the difficulty of Souls-like titles.
In case you missed it, The story for The Last Case of Benedict Fox takes place in Boston in 1925, where self-proclaimed detective Benedict Fox must uncover the fate of a family while traversing a dark, eerie world of emotions made manifest while battling the demon trapped inside his own body.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox is currently in development for the Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a Spring 2023 release.
