If you’re hoping for future entries in the Fatal Frame series, it would appear that things are headed in the right direction. Per Siliconera, the latest financial report for Koei Tecmo’s third quarter of the fiscal year states that the remake of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water has now sold over 340,000 units worldwide since its release in December 2021.
Those sales cover the remaster’s release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. And while the company currently doesn’t have any plans for new entries, series producer Keisuke Kikuchi states that the response to the Maiden of Black Water remaster has been more positive than was initially expected.
And despite the reluctance (so far) to develop new entries, Koei Tecmo is still in the process of forging ahead with a live-action movie adaptation based on the franchise. Christophe Gans (who directed the Silent Hill film adaptation) had mentioned being attached to the project back in February 2020.
