With the closure of Arkane Austin, the devs bid farewell to their co-op shooter Redfall. However, as a parting gift for fans, the developer has released one more update for the beleaguered FPS, giving Redfall an offline mode, but also some new gameplay goodies.
“We’re thankful for the millions of players who have joined us,” reads the message from the developers. “From everyone at Arkane Austin, thank you for playing our games and loving our worlds, it’s been an honor to deliver these experiences to you.”
Update 4 adds “Community Standing” to Redfall, which is a new reputation bar that fills up when you unlock a new Safehouse, completea Safehouse missions, rescue civilians, or kill an Underboss. Filling the bar allows you to use your Support currency to unlock new rewards from the Safehouse Skill Tree. There are six ranks of Community Standing and 39 unique rewards that serve as permanent buffs.
Meanwhile, Elder Nests are new Boss-focused Nests that will challenge you to destroy modified special vampires. Portals to the Elder Nest will appear around Redfall much like their Heart Nest siblings, distinguished by their purple glow. Once you’ve accepted the challenge and entered the Elder Nest, your objective is to find the Vampire boss and destroy them, freeing the Heart inside, grabbing your rewards, and escaping.
After successfully clearing the Elder Nest, you (and your teammates) will be granted a temporary buff called a Heart Shard. The duration of the Heart Shard scales to the campaign difficulty, with a longer buff at each higher difficulty.
Lastly, the update introduces the requested Offline Mode, which will also grant players the ability to continue playing if they’ve disconnected from the internet in the middle of a solo session. When playing cooperatively, the host will be dropped into a solo offline session. As well, the new update introduces Single-Player Pausing, allowing you time to adjust your kit, or pause the action, entirely.
Redfall is available on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Xbox Series.
