The Edgar Allan Poe-based “The Fall of the House of Usher” is the next series from Netflix and Mike Flanagan, with production currently underway. Frank Langella (Dracula, Masters of the Universe) had been set to star as pivotal character Roderick Usher, but Deadline reports that a misconduct investigation has led to Langella being removed from the project.
Deadline reports, “Langella was the subject of an investigation, which has been completed, sources tell Deadline. It determined that Langella had been involved in unacceptable conduct on set. As a result, a decision has been made to recast the role of Roderick Usher.”
“The Fall of the House of Usher” is reportedly halfway through its production, and the Roderick Usher scenes will have to be completely reshot with a new actor. Stay tuned.
The limited series from Intrepid Pictures is “based on multiple works from Poe.” 8 episodes have been ordered. Flanagan and Michael Fimognari will each direct four episodes.
The ensemble cast will include Carla Gugino (Gerald’s Game, “The Haunting of Hill House”), Mary McDonnell (Scream 4), Carl Lumbly (Doctor Sleep), and Mark Hamill.
Henry Thomas, T’Nia Miller, Kyleigh Curran, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Michael Trucco, Paola Núñez, Katie Parker, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Aya Furukawa, Daniel Jun, Matt Biedel, Ruth Codd, Igby Rigney, Annabeth Gish, and Robert Longstreet will also star, many of them returning players from previous Flanagan and Netflix collaborations. Of note, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Robert Longstreet and Zach Gilford just starred in “Midnight Mass,” while T’Nia Miller was a scene-stealer in “Bly Manor.”
“The Fall of the House of Usher” marks the fifth series for Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy at Netflix under their Intrepid Pictures overall deal, including: the fan-beloved “The Haunting of” series – “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor”; the recently launched and critically-lauded “Midnight Mass,” and the upcoming “The Midnight Club.”
Executive producers include Flanagan, Trevor Macy, Emmy Grinwis and Michael Fimognari.
