It seems that Frictional Games couldn’t wait until The Game Awards next week, as they’ve announced a new entry in the Amnesia series in Amnesia: The Bunker. This semi-open world title will arrive March 2023 for Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Fresh off of 2020’s Amnesia: Rebirth (check out our review here), The Bunker does things a little different this time around. For the first time, players are equipped with high levels of freedom to impact their gameplay experience, allowing players to their playstyle as they explore the game’s semi-open world. There are fewer scripted events this time around, and instead, there’s a constant tension brought about by an ever-present threat, leaving it up to the player to work their way out to survive.
The Bunker takes place in WWI (hence the name of the game). While the story hasn’t fully been revealed yet, you play as a French soldier haunted by his amnesia, and hunted by an otherworldly creature. Armed with only a single bullet and your noisy dynamo flashlight, you’ll have to search for and use the tools and weapons at your disposal, while keeping the lights on at all costs. Overcome fear, persevere, and make your way out alive.
