From Epic Pictures’ horror label DREAD and director Jill Gevargizian (The Stylist) comes indie horror movie Ghost Game, which just made its way onto VOD outlets on Tuesday.

In the film, “After discovering his girlfriend Laura’s involvement in an internet challenge to secretly live alongside unsuspecting residents, Vin persuades her to take him on her next adventure. They target Halton House, a notoriously haunted manor recently purchased by a new family.

“Upon entering, the thrill-seeking couple experiences chilling, unexplained phenomena. It quickly becomes clear they are not the only ones haunting the manor. Catnado movie

The viral success of the Sharknado franchise has recently spawned knockoff movies including Clownado and Monsternado, and up next Wild Eye Releasing is preparing for a Catnado.

Catnado was unleashed onto VOD outlets on Tuesday.

Yes, it’s a real movie. Yes, it looks terrible. Yes, we’ll be watching. Watch the trailer below.

In Catnado, “The world faces a horrific onslaught of tornadoes, each unleashing hordes of enraged and deadly cats upon humanity! As chaos reigns, a disparate group of individuals have one mission: to stop this feline fury. But against such odds, and with only one life to spare per person, their battle becomes a cat-astrophic struggle for survival.

“And when the fur flies it will be a meow-ssacre!”

Erica Rowell Green, Joshua G Otto, Blair Kelly, Serena Salieri, and Tucky Williams star.

Catnado features segments directed by Donald Farmer, Curtis Everitt, Alaine Huntington, Blair Kelly, James M. Myers, Melvin Pittman, Tim Ritter, Jerry Williams, and Logan Winton.

Trailblazing trans director Alice Maio Mackay (So Vam, T Blockers) is back this week with holiday horror indie Carnage for Christmas, now available on VOD outlets at home.

At only 20 years old and now with five features under her belt, Maio Mackay further establishes herself as a shrewd filmmaker with a knack for fusing horror with a healthy dose of camp.

In the film, “When true-crime podcaster and sleuth transwoman Lola visits her hometown at Christmas for the first time since running away and transitioning, the vengeful ghost of a historical murderer and urban legend seemingly arises to kill again.”

Alice Maio Mackay enlisted fellow genre artist Vera Drew, director and star of The People’s Joker (also now available on VOD outlets), as the film’s editor and visual effects artist.

In the card game The Werewolves of Millers Hollow, paranoia and mistrust ensue as players seek to uncover the hidden identity of a werewolf in their midst. The French comedy feature Family Pack adapts the horror game, and it’s now streaming exclusively on Netflix.

François Uzan (“Lupin”) helms the family-friendly feature.

In the film, “After discovering a mysterious card game, a family is thrust back in time to a medieval village where they must fend off dangerous werewolves each night.”

Franck Dubosc, Jean Reno, and Suzanne Clément star.

Azrael Review SXSW 2024 - Azrael Trailer

The hotly anticipated action-horror movie Azrael starring Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream VI) was released into theaters last month and just hit Shudder at home today.

The high concept action-horror film from Republic Pictures stars Samara Weaving and was directed by E.L. Katz (Channel Zero, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Cheap Thrills) from an original script by Simon Barrett (The Guest, You’re Next, Godzilla x Kong).

“In a world in which no one speaks, a devout female-led community hunts down a young woman (Weaving) who has escaped her imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, Azrael is to be sacrificed to pacify an ancient evil that resides deep within the surrounding wilderness – yet she will stop at nothing to ensure her own freedom and survival.

“From the seeds of this gritty, relentless parable of sacrifice and salvation, comes an immersive, real-time, action horror tale.”

Frankie Freako

The next movie from director Steven Kostanski (The Void, Psycho Goreman) is the zany horror-comedy Frankie Freako, which debuted on VOD at home beginning today.

In Frankie Freako, “After calling a late-night party hotline that promises out-of-this-world fun, uptight yuppie Conor Sweeney must battle the pint-sized forces of evil unleashed through his phone line, led by the maniacal rock n’ roll goblin FRANKIE FREAKO.”

Here’s the full plot synopsis: “Workaholic yuppie Conor Sweeney (The Editor, Father’s Day) has a dilemma: no one in his life respects him! Not his boss, not his coworkers, not even his wife Kristina, who thinks he’s an uptight “square”! Conor sees no way out of this existential rut until one night channel-surfing he catches a bizarre ad for a party hotline hosted by a strange dancing goblin: FRANKIE FREAKO. Conor is entranced by Frankie’s promises of wild and freaky adventures, just a phone call away – could this be the recipe to spice up his flavorless life?

“Home alone for the weekend, Conor works up the courage to dial the number for the Frankie Freako hotline. As soon as the call connects, it unleashes CHAOS into his white-collar world, releasing Frankie and his troublemaker friends from their dimensional prison. It’s a race against time as Conor must defeat the rambunctious ruffians and clean up their trail of destruction before Kristina returns from her trip, all while going on an unexpected journey of self-discovery.”

Director Steven Kostanski previews, “The “little monster” movie is a subgenre beloved by horror fans. Franchises like Critters, Ghoulies and Puppet Master are still immensely popular despite there being no recent entries in the franchises. Frankie Freako is my vision for the next tiny monster franchise, brought to life through a combination of modern visual effects as well as old-school practical puppeteering techniques. Additionally, I envision the film as my personal take on the Evil Dead 2 format: it is a contained story centered around one flawed man fighting an onslaught of tiny terrors, with each set-piece escalating in absurdity and inventiveness.”

Frankie Freako is meant to be the complete antithesis of the current trend of overly self-serious A24- style horror films, with a tone more akin to early Tim Burton films like Beetlejuice or Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure,” Kostanski’s statement continues.

Grammy®-nominated music video director Cooper Roberts makes his feature directorial debut with horror-comedy All You Need Is Blood, now available on VOD outlets.

Logan Riley Bruner (Stranger Things), Neel Sethi (The Jungle Book) and newcomer Emma Chasse star alongside Mena Suvari (American Pie) and comedian Eddie Griffin (Undercover Brother) in the “blood-soaked, heartfelt” zombie-comedy.

The film follows Bucky, a 16-year-old aspiring director who dreams of becoming the next arthouse auteur sensation. After a strange meteor crash lands in his backyard and turns his deadbeat father into a brain-eating zombie, Bucky and his friends seize the opportunity to create the ultimate horror flick, starring his undead dad.

They’ll soon realize that making a movie with real zombies is harder than they thought, especially when Bucky can’t tolerate the sight of blood.

“It’s a zombie film but I love it because of how much heart it has. At its core, this story has so many meaningful themes it’s exploring, buried under the carnage,” said producer Jesse Korman.

Your Monster Melissa Barrera

Melissa Barrera (Scream VI, Abigail) is back in Vertical’s new horror-comedy Your Monster, which was released only in theaters beginning today, Friday, October 25, 2024.
