The Japanese manga series Fullmetal Alchemist made the leap to live action back in 2017, and we’ve learned today that a two-part sequel to that movie is on the way this year.
Thanks to Screen Rant for the heads up this afternoon that Warner Bros. has dropped the trailer for the Fullmetal Alchemist two-part sequel saga, which you can check out down below.
The site reports, “Fukushūsha Scar (The Avenger Scar), will be released on May 20, and Part 2, named Saigo no Rensei (The Last Transmutation), will be released on June 24.”
Ryosuke Yamada is back as main character Edward Elric for the sequel(s).
Here’s the translated plot synopsis from WB: “Ed and Al visit Central, where serial murders targeting only national alchemists occur. Although the criminal was unidentified, he was called a “scar” because he had a cross wound on his forehead. The brothers also fight for their lives, but before their overwhelming strength, his mechanical armor (automail) is destroyed and he becomes desperate. Will they be able to overcome this crisis and regain their original bodies? The hidden secrets of this country, the “Promise Day”, and the past of Ed and Al’s father. The mystery and truth that overlaps are unraveled, and the story goes to the finale of the masterpiece. What was the last answer your brother gave…?”
The manga series was written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, originally published between 2001 and 2010. The best-selling series spawned various anime adaptations.
Wikipedia describes, “The steampunk world of Fullmetal Alchemist is primarily styled after the European Industrial Revolution. Set in the early 20th century, in a fictional universe in which alchemy is a widely practiced science, the series follows the journey of two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who are searching for the philosopher’s stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.”
