As we learned earlier this year, an untitled sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife brings the ghosts back to theaters on December 20, 2023, with the sequel set to return to the original films’ New York City and Firehouse settings. Ernie Hudson will be back as Winston Zeddemore, with the film recently being described as “the next chapter in the Spengler family story.”
As expected, that means Mckenna Grace will be back as Afterlife character Phoebe, the grand-daughter of Egon Spengler, the actress confirmed in an interview this week.
Grace tells ComicBook.com, “I’m constantly pressuring Jason Reitman, our director, I’m always trying to figure out what the story is. I literally have no ounce of a clue what the story is. If I knew about a Marvel film or if I knew about Ghostbusters, I’d be sitting here and I’d be like, ‘I have no clue, and it’s driving me nuts.’ I’m just excited to do a second one.
“I’m just excited to be Phoebe,” she adds.
Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
The latest chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, made its theatrical debut in November 2021 and grossed over $200 million at the global box office.
A brand new animated series AND animated movie are also on the way, so Sony/Columbia Pictures are currently all-in on expanding the Ghostbusters Universe as much as possible.
