At long last, Sony Pictures is unearthing Ghostbusters: Afterlife, discovering a brand new trailer that’s linked directly to the original two films in many ways.
The trailer targets the nostalgic sweet spot, offering up the first footage of Annie Potts as fan-favorite Janine, the love interest of Egon Spangler, as well as a tease of Dan Aykroyd‘s Ray Stantz. Even further, when the ghosts are unleashed out of a well, we catch a shot of a terror dog/Zuul(?) and possibly even…Gozer?!
It’s already been promised that Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver are also all coming back for this sequel to the original classic, reprising their iconic and beloved roles. But the biggest and most endearing loving homage is being able to see Harold Ramis back in a Ghostbusters movie, even if it’s in YouTube footage of the infamous Ghostbusters television commercial from 1984.
In the film…
When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
Afterlife‘s cast also includes Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.
Jason Reitman‘s sequel to the original classic(s) is set for theatrical release on November 11, 2021, so we’re not looking at “The Summer of Ghostbusters” but rather the “Holiday Season of Ghostbusters.”
