In space, no one can hear you riff… that is, unless you’re Girih. Bloody-Disgusting has teamed up with the instrumental post-rock act to debut their cosmic music video for “The Ring,” which you can watch below.
“The Ring” is the first single from the band’s sophomore album, Ikigai, named after the Japanese conceptual philosophy of finding purpose and fulfillment. It will be released digitally and on vinyl on October 14 via A Thousand Arms in the US and Dunk! Records in Europe.
With the help of filmmakers Tanner Fowler, Hans Peter Schepp, Jonathan Vardi, Pong Chan, and Timothy McGlinchey, “The Ring” takes viewers on a surreal sci-fi journey in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar, and Gravity.
Formed in New Hampshire in 2016, Girih is comprised of Alex Paul and Brian Luttrell on guitars and Jeremy Dingman on drums. “The Ring” finds the trio joined by cellist Nick Grieco and violinist John Snyder to add an orchestral dynamic.
“Ikigai is about the process that an artist goes through to create their respective art,” explains Luttrell. “Film is an art that we, as a band, really love, and a lot of that comes with the amazing scores that compliment them.” Girih cites composers John Carpenter and Hans Zimmer along with bands like Russian Circles, O’Brother, and Caspian as influences.
