Winnie the Pooh. Cinderella. Mickey Mouse. If a beloved character falls into the public domain, you can be sure that a horror movie twist on the classic tale won’t be far behind.
The next of these public domain horrors is slasher movie Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge, and Variety shares a first look sneak peek today (find it above).
The upcoming slasher is being compared to The Strangers and The Purge.
Variety details, “In this adaptation of the fairy tale, Goldilocks and the three bears live together in an isolated house in the woods. When a group of friends enter their home, Goldilocks, leader of the bears’ pack, decides to get rid of the intruders.”
Craig Rees (Annabellum, Whispers) directed for Rees Dragon Prods.
Rees, Olga Solo, Abigail Huxley, and Julian Amos star.
No word yet on a U.S. release for this one. Stay tuned.
The box office success of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey last year is to blame for this current trend of public domain-inspired horror movies, with a sequel on the way this year.
