After two movies, a brand new live-action Goosebumps TV series based on R.L. Stine’s bestselling books will bring the tales back to the small screen, we’ve learned today.
Variety reports this afternoon that Disney+ has given the green light to the new live action Goosebumps series, giving the show a 10-episode series order this week.
It sounds like the series will have a similar storyline to 2015’s hit movie, which adapted many of Stine’s iconic books in one fell swoop. Here’s the project’s plot synopsis…
“The series follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together – thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries, and pasts with each other – in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.”
Rob Letterman, who directed the 2015 Goosebumps movie, will be directing the first episode of the Disney+ series. He’s also on board to write and executive produce.
Nick Stoller will also write and executive produce the Goosebumps TV series.
Variety adds, “Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Conor Welch of Stoller Global Solutions, and Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman of Scholastic Entertainment are also executive producing. Sony Pictures Television Studios will produce.”
Before the movies, Stine’s Goosebumps books were first turned into a TV series back in the 1990s, a live action project that ran for four seasons between 1995 and 1998.
Disney+ is also the home of R.L. Stine’s “Just Beyond.”
