PC gamers have been able to enjoy Andrade Games’ gory sidescrolling action title Heidelberg 1693 for over a year now. And now console gamers will be getting their chance this November, courtesy of Red Art Games.
We briefly touched on Heidelberg 1693 a while back when it was still in development. Released on Steam back in May 2021, Heidelberg 1693 takes place in the Sturmfront – The Mutant War universe, and is set in a zombie-infested version of 17th century Germany featuring real-world historical figures in a decidedly fantastical alternate history. You take on the role of one of King Louis XIV’s musketeers. As war ravages Europe, Louis XIV’s own son, poisoned and left for dead, emerges from the smoke and ashes of Germany’s battlefields. Turning to diabolical and forbidden sciences, the self-proclaimed “Moon King” raises an undead army with revenge on his mind. It’s up to you to battle the undead using your trusty musket.
And really, using the musket is part of the game’s mechanics. You get one shot at a time (albeit a powerful one), but given the long reload time between shots, you’ll have to rely on your trusty sword in between shots. Much like the classic Castlevania games, timing your actions is critical to success.
Heidelberg 1693 will be released digitally on November 18 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and the Xbox Series. There will also be a limited physical version for the Switch and PlayStation versions, which you can snag via Red Art Games’ website.
And, to give PS5 the full experience, Red Art Games will also release the updated version of Sturmfront – The Mutant War: Übel Edition on November 18. This will also be getting a limited physical release, which you can also pre-order from Red Art Games’ website.
