Michael Myers returns to theaters one more time next Halloween season for Halloween Ends, intended to be the final film in this particular timeline for the long-running franchise.
Halloween Ends is currently dated for October 14, 2022, and Gordon Green recently teased that there will be a four-year time jump from the events of Kills to the events of Ends.
Additionally, we probably haven’t seen the last of Lindsey Wallace…
What else can we expect from Halloween Ends? Speaking with the Empire Spoiler Special Podcast (via Indiewire), director David Gordon Green teases a “very different tone.”
“There’s not a lot of games in it, there’s not a lot of wittiness and retro joy,” Gordon Green explains. “It’s kind of a coming-of-age film, and it’s a very different tone. And that’s what excited me about it, is to have the three chapters that I’ve been involved in be very different from each other. They are all there to honor Carpenter, but aren’t necessary just emulating him.”
The filmmaker continues, “I sent Carpenter the new draft of Halloween Ends the other night, and I said, ‘If it feels too ‘Christine,’ let me know.’ For Halloween Ends, it’s just a love of Carpenter, you know. It’s more than just, ‘Hey, here’s a character and a community that you’ve created.’ It’s, ‘Here’s an appreciation of your legendary body of work.’”
It’s probably safe to assume that Allyson (Andi Matichak) is the character who will be having something of a coming-of-age arc in Halloween Ends, with the events of Halloween and Halloween Kills changing her entire world in catastrophic ways. The film has also been described as being more “intimate” and more “contained” than this year’s sequel.
As for how the film will compare to John Carpenter’s Christine, that sounds like a pretty strange comparison on paper. Any guesses as to what Gordon Green might be referring to?
