Yesterday was a big day for Ghostbusters fans, with several big announcements made in celebration of “Ghostbusters Day.” For starters, a new comic series and a new animated series are in the works, along with an animated feature film and a brand new live action film. The latter, a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, will bring the franchise back to Manhattan, New York!
Additionally, the announcement was made at last night’s “Ghostbusters Day” event that Hasbro has whipped up a limited edition Ivan Reitman action figure, paying tribute to the director of the original Ghostbusters movies. Reitman, of course one of the key figures to the enduring history and legacy of the franchise, passed away in February of last year.
Only TWO of the Ivan Reitman tribute figures are being made by Hasbro, and it’s done in the style of the “Plasma Series” figures that were made of the Ghostbusters: Afterlife characters.
Here’s what Hasbro is planning to do with the two action figures…
- One figure is a gift to our friends and partners at Ghost Corps, to be displayed permanently at their offices in honor of Ivan.
- The other will be auctioned off during a fundraising event to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Stay tuned for information on how you can bid for this amazing figure and help support a cause near and dear to Ivan’s heart.
Hasbro notes, “So much thought and detail went into this figure that they’ve even included a recreation of the megaphone Ivan used while filming on the set of Ghostbusters.”
