Horror Roguelite ‘Paper Cut Mansion’ Coming Later This Year, New Gameplay Trailer Released [Video]

It’s probably safe to say that there’s not much going on in the world of papercraft horror at the moment, which already makes Space Lizard Studio‘s upcoming roguelite Paper Cut Mansion unique. After four long years, Thunderful Games will be publishing Paper Cut Mansion, which will be released later this year for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

In Paper Cut Mansion, you are Toby, a police detective who awakens on the road leading to the eponymous old mansion. You’ll be putting your detective skills to the test as you work to discover the story behind the mansion, with a multitude of characters either helping or hindering you on your quest. That includes everything from offering advice and items, to outright trying to kill you.

As this is a roguelite, your inevitable death gives you another opportunity to collect another piece of evidence to be tacked on the Evidence Board as you explore the mansion. Solving escape-room style puzzles, battling enemies and completing quests will allow you to unlock new abilities to aid you on each run. Mixing things up even more is a dimension-hopping mechanic that lets you leap between alternate versions of the same location that also switches up the aesthetics and gameplay.

According to Space Lizard Studios’ Gabriele Caruso, the team wanted to create something unique in Paper Cut Mansion. That includes drawing inspiration from the “classic 80s and 90s works of Tim Burton and Jim Henson”. Hey, if the aesthetics approach anything like that, the game is already a winner for many.
