We talked about the original – and very much lost – ending to Rob Zombie‘s House of 1000 Corpses earlier this week when Zombie shared a still image from the unseen ending on Instagram, and this afternoon Zombie has managed to dig up and share another rare image.
To recap…
Originally made for Universal, the film was ultimately released by Lionsgate, and it went through a handful of changes in the years between being made and being unleashed.
Unfortunately, none of the “Director’s Cut” footage that was excised from House of 1000 Corpses to get its “R” rating has ever been located, and as Rob Zombie explained to Bloody Disgusting back in 2019, it’s unlikely to ever be found. Zombie told us, “There’s nothing. I mean, I don’t know where anything is. I gotta be honest. Nothing’s ever been discovered.”
This new image shows final girl Denise Willis (Erin Daniels) inside of Captain Spaulding’s (Sid Haig) “Museum of Monsters & Madmen” truck, both bathed in crimson red lighting. In the only ending that we’ve seen, Denise gets picked up by Captain Spaulding after escaping Doctor Satan’s lair. She’s then attacked by Otis Driftwood, who was lurking in the backseat.
In the film’s slightly modified original ending (detailed by IMDb), “Spaulding was originally driving a large delivery truck which ended when his assistant, Ravelli, appeared again from the back of the truck, grabs Denise, and pulls her back into the truck which is lit with red light.” This new image gives us a better look at that lost scene, which we’ll likely never see.
Zombie again reiterates in today’s Instagram post, “all this footage is lost.”
