It’s been over a decade since Will Smith‘s 2007 hit I Am Legend toppled the global box office. Warner Bros. is finally upping the stakes on the property with a new sequel in development.
Per Deadline, Smith is returning for the next chapter as star and producer. He’ll be joined on screen by Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan, who will also produce.
Oscar winner and producer Akiva Goldsman, who adapted the Richard Matheson 1954 novel, is also returning to write the follow-up. Plot details at this time remain under lock and key.
The 2007 film saw Smith’s Dr. Robert Neville “Wander alone through New York City, calling out for other possible survivors, and works on finding a cure for the plague using his own immune blood. Neville knows he is badly outnumbered, and the odds are against him, and all the while, the infected wait for him to make a mistake that will deliver Neville into their hands.”
Considering how I Am Legend concluded Neville’s story, it’ll be interesting to see how they approach his return.
