Nightmare Forge Games are continuing their development of their Steamboat Willie co-op horror game Infestation: Origins, which is now targeting October 2024 for a Steam Early Access release. The developer has also released a new gameplay trailer, showcasing the various monstrous pests you’ll be facing, along with the “big bosses” in each area, including Nightmare Forge’s take on Steamboat Willie.
The story for Infestation: Origins takes place in the 1980s, where what was thought to be an outbreak of vermin and other pests in various locations morphed into something far more sinister. Vector Pest Control is an international pest control company renowned for its success in treating the worst of infestations. As an exterminator for VPC, you must investigate investigate these reports and treat any signs of infestation you find.
You and up to three other people will explore unique locations and uncover the story behind how each infestation began. Find the means to access and unlock new areas, and use monitors to keep an eye on pest activity. You must power different systems to weaken the spread, before finding and eliminating the source at all costs.
Nightmare Forge has also revealed the first two episodes of Infestation: Origins for you get your extermination juices flowing:
The first case involves a rat infestation at an old dry dock warehouse, but it quickly becomes clear that the problem is way bigger than just rodents. The place is home to a creepy, century-old steamboat, and weird things have been happening. As you dig through old logs from workers of the warehouse, you learn that the steamboat might be cursed, with a dark history of accidents and strange cargo. There’s even talk of a giant mouse-like figure haunting the place, known as Willie…
The second case is a reported moth infestation at a state park, where kids have gone missing, and strange whispers fill the night air. You start digging around and uncover old legends about the Mothman, a creepy creature with glowing red eyes that’s been spotted in the woods. You must clear the infestation and search each cabin for further clues as to its origin. Power on spotlights to attract the entities and stop the spread before it’s too late.
