Ahead of the film’s 4K and Blu-ray release on June 14, Sony has made the odd decision to bring Daniel Espinosa‘s (Life) Marvel vampire movie Morbius back to the big screen.
Beginning today, June 3, Morbius is back on over 1,000 screens in the United States. The film was originally released in theaters on April 1, pulling in $73.3 million domestically.
Worldwide, Morbius has thus far taken a bite out of $163.3 million.
So why is Morbius being brought back to life? Many are speculating that the film’s newfound meme status is to blame, with Sony looking to capitalize on the “morbin time” trend.
Hey, it’s 2022. Nothing really surprises us anymore…
“One of the most compelling and conflicted characters in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble.
“While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”
Meagan wrote in her review of Morbius, “At best, it’s a serviceable placeholder until the next installment of this expanding universe.” She adds, “Morbius is primarily a fangless affair.”
