Gorehound gamers who polished off the Saw-inspired Gore Doctor when it was released back in March have another title to indulge their love of splatter with Japanese indie developer 838sManiacs’ CRUELTY. Available now on Steam, the Epic Games Store and itch.io, CRUELTY offers up short but sweet gameplay that mixes survival horror with stealth.
The story for CRUELTY is admittedly pretty simplistic: You were in an accident and lost consciousness. Upon waking up, you find yourself in “an abattoir ruled by madness”. To survive, you must “solve numerous mysteries in this world of fear while evading the gaze of monstrous beings as you progress.”
As mentioned, instead of engaging in combat with enemies, CRUELTY has players progressing through stages by solving puzzles while remaining out of sight from threats. A typical session “ranges from 30 to 60 minutes”, with your survival hinging on escaping or concealing oneself.
Featuring a Manhunt-like gritty third-person perspective, CRUELTY is fully voiced “for an immersive experience”, as well as having “immersive high-quality graphics utilizing the latest game engine technology”.
