It’s no secret that Don Mancini‘s “Chucky” series is eventually going to tie into the events of the previous sequels in the original film franchise, with characters including Tiffany, Nica, Andy, and Kyle making their return in the SYFY/USA series. We’re thus far two episodes into the series and only Andy has made his presence known thus far, at least in a brief voice cameo.
Then again, if you were paying close attention, you might’ve spotted another legacy character in the premiere episode of “Chucky,” which is now streaming for free over on YouTube…
The series opens on a yard sale where we meet main character Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur), who unknowingly becomes involved with the saga of Chucky when he purchases a Good Guys doll at a yard sale. But how did the doll end up at the yard sale in the first place? The woman running the sale, it’s interesting to note, seems to have no idea where the doll came from.
The answer to that question may be found in an Easter egg cameo, as Mancini confirms that a woman who quickly walks past the screen during the yard sale scene is none other than Tiffany Valentine, Chucky’s love interest who was introduced in Bride of Chucky and subsequently appeared in Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky, and 2017’s Cult of Chucky!
“If you look closely you can see a mysterious woman in a red coat and scarf walk by,” Mancini explains in a new featurette. “That is meant to be Tiffany, of course.”
Last we saw Jennifer Tilly‘s Tiffany, the character was driving off with Nica Pierce, whose body is now inhabited by Charles Lee Ray. And the Tiffany doll, well, she’s still alive as well.
So what are we to make of this blink-and-miss-it cameo? Beyond being a little tease that Tiffany is back in “Chucky” – something that was confirmed quite a while ago now – the cameo also seems to suggest that Tiffany has a little something to do with Chucky’s latest killing spree. It seems safe to assume that it was Tiffany who dropped that doll off at the yard sale…
Don’t forget that Cult of Chucky introduced the idea that several Good Guys dolls are now imbued with the evil spirit of Charles Lee Ray, so there’s a good chance there’s more than one killer doll at play in the “Chucky” series. In fact, if you’ve been paying close attention, the series has already hinted that Jake’s Chucky isn’t the only Chucky running around out there.
“Chucky” is indeed a direct sequel to pretty much all existing Child’s Play movies – not including the 2019 remake, of course – but Mancini is taking his time revealing his hand. Up to this point, the series has been telling an entirely new tale of a queer teenager who’s being seduced to kill by Chucky, with the legacy characters only being teased in the first few episodes. There’s nothing Mancini loves to do more, after all, than put a fresh spin on his iconic creation, while also always making sure to weave in storylines and characters from the past that fans love.
And don’t worry, they’re coming. New episodes of “Chucky” air Tuesday nights on both USA and SYFY, and if you’ve missed the first two on TV, you can watch them both over on YouTube.
