The post-apocalyptic movie The Book of Eli starred Denzel Washington back in 2010, and Deadline reports today that John Boyega (Attack the Block) is on board to both star in and executive produce a prequel series package that’s being presented to “select premium buyers.”
Boyega would play a young version of Denzel’s character from the movie.
Gary Whitta, who wrote The Book of Eli, is on board the planned project. The 2010 movie was directed by The Hughes Brothers, who are also attached to executive produce the series.
Deadline reminds, “The neo-Western Book Of Eli movie takes place thirty years after a nuclear catastrophe. It revolves around Eli, a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation.”
The site also notes, “Details about the TV series are sketchy but I hear it is set 30 years prior to the events in the film, which would put it around the time of the nuclear event or its immediate aftermath.”
