Sam Raimi returns to the world of Marvel with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness this year, a film which also brings Raimi back to the world of horror. The Doctor Strange sequel, after all, is being positioned as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first true horror movie, which will technically make it Sam Raimi’s first horror movie in more than 10 years!
But just how much horror can we expect to see in the film? That’s the question we’ve been pondering for several months now, and Marvel’s Kevin Feige brings us an enticing new tease.
Feige tells Empire Online this week, “We want it to be a Sam Raimi movie. We would give notes like, ‘This action is cool – you’re competing with Avengers and Spider-Man, no problem – but don’t forget the Sam Raimi parts.’ You will see just how Sam Raimi it is, in ways that will make fans of Evil Dead II very happy.”
Raimi’s return to the world of Marvel will release in theaters on May 6, 2022, and the official trailers have teased zombie versions of Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch, with “WandaVision” making Scarlet Witch the new owner of the Darkhold, a very Necronomicon-like book of evil. In other words, it sounds like the Evil Dead II comparisons aren’t very far off!
Just how “Evil Dead” can a Doctor Strange movie get? We’ll find out in May!
In Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
