Originally a Google Stadia exclusive, Tequila Works and Parallel Circles’ kid Survival Horror title GYLT has been rescued from the now-defunct service, and is now available on PC via Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. Described as an “accessible horror game for fans of the genre and beyond”, GYLT combines familiar Survival Horror tropes such as puzzles, stealth and action sequences, but presents them in such a way that younger horror fans can get into the genre.
The story for GYLT revolves around Sally, a little girl living in Bethelwood. Life hasn’t been easy for Sally, and things haven’t gotten any better since her little cousin Emily disappeared. After being chased by a group of bullies, Sally is dragged into a twisted version of her town where her fears and worse memories are presented in a wicked and very real way. Now, not only has Sally got to find her way out of this alternate reality, but she also must solve the mystery of Emily’s disappearance.
The familiar Survival Horror mechanic of deciding to either fight or flee from monsters in on full display in GYLT, but with the added component of it being from a child’s point of view. Similar to how you were taught to face your fears when you were a kid, you’ll either be taking on these nightmarish creatures using your flashlight (a la Alan Wake), or coming up with strategies to distract them or stealthily maneuver around them. The game is all set to a soundtrack by Cris Velasco, whose work ranges from Overwatch and Mass Effect to Borderlands, God of War, Bloodborne.
