Three years after it was first announced, 3D Realms and developer Slipgate Ironworks have unleashed the remaster of Xatrix’s cult classic shooter Kingpin: Life of Crime as Kingpin: Reloaded. Available now on Steam, the remaster will be headed to consoles at a later date.
Kingpin: Reloaded breathes life into the 1999 shooter, now enhanced for modern audiences. Originally developed on the Quake II engine, Kingpin: Reloaded offers 4K resolution, ultrawide monitor support, controller integration, and the ability to toggle between “classic” and “enhanced” graphical modes if you’re keen on revisiting the original look.
The story for Kingpin: Reloaded sees you as a nameless thug seeking revenge on the mob boss who double-crossed you. To do so, you’ll be recruiting fellow mobsters to build an unstoppable gang, tackling hub-based missions and upgrading an arsenal of weapons. Reloaded keeps the original game’s gritty atmosphere and violence, including the use of area-specific damage for each character model.
And yes, for Quake II fans, the famous “wobble” is here for the character models.
“We’re thrilled to bring the enhanced version of a certified cult classic to life,” said Frederik Schreiber, founder of 3D Realms. “This is an excellent opportunity for veterans to revisit the charm of boomer shooters and for newcomers to experience it for the first time.”
