Konami is trying once again with the Contra series in a reimagining of the one that started it all. Contra: Operation Galuga was revealed today during the Nintendo Direct, and is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch in early 2024. Pre-orders are available now via the Nintendo eShop.
Developed by WayForward, Contra: Operation Galuga (named after the Contra universe’s Galuga Archipelago where series antagonist Red Falcon first appears) is described as a “thorough reimagining” of the 1987 classic. Operation Galuga will feature modern graphics and sound, new stages, new enemies and bosses, new play mechanics, an updated weapons system, and two-player co-op action in Story Mode, and four-player co-op in Arcade Mode.
The previous game in the Contra series, Contra: Rogue Corps, was released back in 2019 for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
