With all of the hype from the early reviews for Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake (check out our take soon), Tuesday can’t come any faster. In the meantime, Bloober Team and Konami have dropped the launch trailer for the remake of the beloved 2001 Survival Horror classic.
Silent Hill 2 centres around James Sunderland, who travels to the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife Mary. The thing is, Mary had been suffering from an illness and died three years earlier. After arriving in the town, James meets Maria, a woman who strongly resembles Mary, but something is different about this woman…
Rebuilt for a new generation, the Silent Hill 2 remake sports plenty of cutting-edge technical enhancements, larger environments, a reworked camera and an updated combat system. Players will be able to explore locations and buildings that were once inaccessible, or have been newly added in the remake.
The remake moves from the original’s fixed-camera viewpoints to an over-the-shoulder perspective, putting you closer to what James sees, for a more immersive experience. Familiar weapons like the steel pipe and handgun make their return, but now with an updated combat system. James can now avoid attacks with carefully timed dodges, aim down sights, and more.
It’s all wrapped up in the iconic soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka, which features newly-recorded material, including remade tracks and new songs.
Silent Hill 2 will launch for PC via Steam and the PlayStation 5 on October 8. Though nothing official has been announced as of yet, Silent Hill 2 is expected to make its way to the Xbox Series sometime next year.
