Showtime‘s hit series “Yellowjackets” is getting ready to begin production on Season 2, and Variety reports today that Lauren Ambrose (“Servant”) has joined the ensemble.
Ambrose, who starred in HBO’s “Six Feet Under,” will be playing the adult version of the character Van, who has been portrayed up to this point as a teenager by Liv Hewson.
Hewson will also be back as a series regular beginning with Season 2.
Vanessa “Van” Palmer was a member of the WHS Yellowjackets, a survivor of the plane crash. Van was savagely mauled by wolves in Season 1, but also managed to survive that nightmare. During their time in the wilderness, Van and Taissa ended up falling in love, and her fate was left unclear by the end of the first season. This news of course confirms that Van is still alive.
Production on “Yellowjackets” Season 2 begins this month in Vancouver.
The series was created by Ashley Lyle & Bart Nickerson (“Narcos”), described as being “equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama.”
Chatting with Variety, the team recently promised “Yellowjackets” Season 2 will take us into a harsh winter, suggesting we’re in store for an even more horrifying second season.
“We are definitely re-visiting the winter storyline,” Ashley Lyle told Variety. “We’ve been calling Season 2, ‘The Winter of Their Discontent.’”
“Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.”
Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis star.
