It was back in 1990 that Liam Neeson joined forces with Sam Raimi for Darkman, which was something of a hybrid between a comic book superhero movie and a Universal Monsters-type horror movie. Neeson starred as Peyton Westlake, a scientist who’s disfigured and left for dead by a mob boss. He becomes Darkman, an avenging superhero who stalks the streets.
Darkman was followed by two sequels – Darkman II: The Return of Durant in 1995 and Darkman III: Die Darkman Die in 1996, with Arnold Vosloo taking over the role of Peyton Westlake/Darkman from Liam Neeson. All these years later, would Neeson be interested in reprising the role for something of a legacy sequel to Sam Raimi’s original Darkman movie?
ComicBook.com asked Neeson that very question this week.
“That’s a good question,” Neeson replied with a smile. “I would be very interested in reading the script. Very.”
On that note, filmmaker Josh Ruben (Scare Me, Werewolves Within) has been lobbying to direct a new Darkman movie for a while now, frequently tweeting about his desire to bring the Sam Raimi superhero back to life. At this time, however, no plans are in motion.
