The Bad Seed Returns, a sequel to Lifetime’s 2018 remake, had been set to premiere on Monday, May 30, 2022, but we’ve learned that those plans have changed due to recent events.
Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters Afterlife) stars in the sequel, and she has announced on Twitter this week that Lifetime has made the decision to delay the movie due to the horrific elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Grace tweets, “In the wake of the recent tragedy in my home state of Texas, we have decided to delay the release of The Bad Seed Returns.”
“Lifetime & everyone involved are in agreement,” the actress adds. “I don’t feel comfortable promoting the film this week and we don’t think Monday is the right time to release it. I was in first grade when Sandy Hook happened… and it feels like not much has changed since then.”
Grace continues in her statement this week, “If you have power, change something. If you have the means, donate to the victims’ families of any of the recent shootings.”

“After the murderous events that left her father (Rob Lowe) dead, 15-year-old Emma (Grace), a seemingly typical teenaged girl, is now living with aunt Angela (Michelle Morgan) and navigating high school. But the darkness can only be hidden for so long, especially when Angela’s husband Robert (Benjamin Ayres) begins to suspect Emma may not be as innocent as she appears, and a new girl at school seems to know Emma’s secrets. Left with no choice, Emma slips back to her old ways to take care of her enemies by any means necessary. ”
Louise Archambault (Catastrophe, This Life) directed. Mckenna Grace co-wrote the script with her father, Ross Burge, and the 2018 film’s writer, Barbara Marshall (Wish Upon).
