Fans of The Backrooms internet phenomena have another game to dive into, thanks to Mascot Bro Studio (the same team behind the upcoming Zoo Parasite). Backrooms: Partygoers will launch on October 29 for PC via Steam, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as the Nintendo Switch.
In Backrooms: Partygoers, you play as an Anomaly Hunter, sent into the backrooms to investigate and document the strange occurrences. The game takes place on Level 1, a dimly lit labyrinth of identical halls and rooms that seemingly go on forever in a liminal space. Taking a cue from Alien: Isolation (why not?), your main challenge comes from the Partygoers, hostile entities that stalk the player throughout the level. With their grotesque grins and brightly colored, party-like appearances, these creatures lure their victims with a false sense of joy before turning deadly.
The Partygoers don’t just chase you. Rather, they will toy with you, setting traps, cutting off exits, and using the level’s layout to their advantage. Players will have to stay vigilant, using stealth and strategic planning to avoid detection. The constant threat of being hunted turns every task into a nerve-wracking race against time.
As an Anomaly Hunter, you’re equipped with different devices, such as with the anomaly scanner, which will help you locate any targets. The downside of this it will attract Partygoers. You’ll need to hide, scan for Partygoers, find batteries for your flashlight and more. Scavenge for water and other supplies from dead bodies stuck in the Backrooms and try to escape.
