That was fast. A week after securing a deal for a publishing deal with Crytivo as well as a demo release, Crazy Goat Games has announced that Worshippers of Cthulhu will see an October 21 release date on PC via Steam, with future releases on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series. The developer also celebrated the occasion with a new trailer debuting at Gamescom.
The trailer features a new, darker side to the game, allowing players to ritualistically carve a design into the back of a villager. According to the press release, this practice increases the bond the player is forming with Cthulhu, with the ultimate goal to bring Cthulhu to power. It shouldn’t be a surprise, given that you can sacrifice your followers (or those you’ve captured) to the Great Old One.
In Worshippers of Cthulhu, your journey begins by establishing and managing cities across multiple islands. Efficient resource management and strategic decisions are key. Perform dark rituals to gain supernatural powers and explore mysterious lands for hidden resources. Conquer territories while deciding the fate of non-believers, either by converting them or (as mentioned) sacrificing them to Cthulhu. You will have to balance Cthulhu’s patience with your cult’s fanaticism to ensure survival and dominance in a constantly evolving environment.
Cthulhu isn’t the only Lovecraftian god you’ll be dabbling with, as you will be performing rituals to engage with Dagon and other entities from Lovecraft’s mythology. Doing so will unlock “profound knowledge and bestow supernatural blessings upon you.” From there, you can use these blessings to enhance your power and expand your city.
