If you were looking for team-based FPS that dives headfirst into Lovecraftian lore, then Cathedral Studios’ The Bornless is one that will pique your interest. Currently slated for an Early Access release on Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2024, the game is aimed squarely at Dead by Daylight and Hunt: Showdown fans, focusing on teamwork and strategy while combining rich lore and visuals.
The Bornless plunges players into a world where demonic forces interweave with the human realm, wreaking havoc and seeding mystery in the idyllic North American town of Farmouth. Players will discover the secrets of the ominous Church of Orobas and stave off the unholy powers threatening to annihilate the universe’s balance. In addition to teamwork, you’ll also be conjuring demons to aid you in combat, as well as collect and upgrade weapons. You’ll also have to employ resource management in order to survive.
The game sees players team up to either join or create a Faction, which unlocks access to Safehouses (which you can expand, decorate, and amass the resources obtained through combat modes), competitive tournaments and Faction quests. At launch, players will be able to choose form eight characters, each with their own backstory. Players will also have access to a skill system, as well as looting mechanics to add even more depth to the gameplay.
Cathedral Studios is also planning something unique when it comes to playtesting. Come September, the team plans on featuring open weekends every week. Participation isn’t limited to just playing the game, as Cathedral Studios is also encouraging fans to dive into the immersive Lovecraftian lore, create content inspired by the game, and even host their own tournaments. This initiative aims to foster a more dynamic and interactive relationship between the developers and the game’s community.
